Thumbs Up for Mahovsky's Metalife
I sent my Glock 27 slide to them for refinishing after sweating off the 'indestructible' tennifer finish.
I redid the slide in Brownells Alumahide in green, but it just didn't look right.
So, after some digging on the net I found them, and send them the slide and barrel for their hard chrome finish.
I got the slide back in a bit over their 30 day turn around time...not a good idea to send them something during the Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years lol.
This is their address if you are thinking of having a firearm refinished:
Mahovsky's Metalife
2327 Eureka Road
Grand Valley, PA 16420
(814) 436-7747
I'm having a Hi Power fitted with a bomar type rear and Heine front sight with the trijicon type sights. When that work is done I'm sending the pistol to them for refinishing.
Again I cannot speak more highly of their services.
Pictures will be posted in the glock pistol thread by this weekend.gotta love her ;)

Re: Thumbs Up for Mahovsky's Metalife
I detect a note of sarcasm in reference to Glock's Tenifer finish. Just for your edification, the finish that you see on the Glock is just black oxide. The Tenifer has no color and is imbeded a couple of thousandths of an inch below the bare metal. Thanks for your post. I have been thinking about sending a couple of my gun's to Mahovsky's. Can't wait to see pics.

Re: Thumbs Up for Mahovsky's Metalife
No sarcasm intended but I have sweated off the finish on:
1. Colt Combat Commander circa 1990
2. Colt Detective Special 3rd Gen
3. Smith & Wesson Model 49
4. Glock 27
I've given up on blued guns its either hard chromed or stainless lol
I'm a bit hard on blued firearms rofl.......gotta love her ;)

If I may ask sir. How do you "sweat" a finish off a weapon?

Re: Thumbs Up for Mahovsky's Metalife
Possibly because of the acidity of his skin. Just like the same reason why I can't wear a watch with a battery. The battery will be dead in under a week. I went threw 4 new watches and 5 batteries in about a month because I had no idea what was going on. Its some type of reaction that causes it.

are you guys still pleased with his work? Rust protection as good as they say on the website?
His prices seem great, and it's always nice to keep your money in PA too.

Re: TEN THUMBS DOWN FOR MAHOVSKY'S
I sent an old Colt Automatic to Mahovsky's to be re-nickled, BIG MISTAKE! Only during a phone call which I placed after his turn-a-round time had passed did he explain that his main business was commercial plating and he only filled in his work with firearms. If you view his website, one would think he's devoted to firearms refinishing. Anyway, after another two weeks my gun came back. what a mess! He must have used a power tool to remove the small nicks and dings instead of polishing it slowly, by hand. The tool must have slipped because it made very noticeable wavy ridges in the top of the receiver. In addition, all of the protected areas next to the ejector, around the grip, along the frame, under the slide all have a "Wet Spray Paint, frosty, pebbled look. NOT the bright shiny nickel finish I paid for...through the nose. In addition, he left small scratches in the left and right sides of the slide and just nickeled over them. Scratches that could have easily been removed with some 400 grit and 5 - 10 minutes time.
Bottom line - I wasted two months time, $250 and had to have Ford's fix Mahovsky's "Work". My advise, you'll go to Ford's NOW or you'll go to them Later. Stay away from people who have zero respect for their own work, a customer and other people's property.

Re: Thumbs Up for Mahovsky's Metalife
I know your post is old, but I am new on the forum. I would love to see pics of the glock slide you had done. I have been a 30 year customer of Mahovskys metalife and never realized that he can plate on glock slides. I was gonna buy a glock a few times and since I am such a Metalife fan, the salesman told me that nobody can replate the glock slides because of that tennifer finish. Now since I read your post, I am even more impressed with Metalife - wow!!! I would love to see your pics and I do believe my next purchase will be the Glock 30S .45 ACP I really liked how the slide looked more narrow. I left a message for Ron Mahovsky after reading your post. I'd appreciate it if you could get me the pics today, as I would love to go buy that glock TODAY and send it to RON to work his magic. Thanks
