Two Victims Are Dead, Seven Others Injured Victims Are In Their 20's
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
Nine people were shot and two died in a Liberty City street shooting Friday night.
Miami Police are investigating the incident in the area of NW 70th Street and 15th Avenue, even though the shootout may have occurred in several nearby locations. Seven of the victims, all apparently in their 20's, were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Two others died.
Detectives say police got the call at about 9:45 p.m. and they believe some of the victims ran back to their apartments to call for help after being injured.
One community activist attributes the shooting animosity among people in the area.
"People are going through changes, hating on one another," said the Rev. Jerome Starling. "City of Miami has done a great job with the Pork and Beans area, two blocks away. What has happened is you can't come outside of the area two blocks away, and they're shooting on the corner."
Police do not have the shooter in custody, and have not offered a description of who they are looking for at this time.
They have surrounded a perimeter in the area as they look for clues and the shooter. They are still trying to investigate exactly what happened and how many shooters they are looking for.
If you have any information that may help police solve the crime or make an arrest please call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers: 305-471-TIPS.

MIAMI, Florida (CNN) -- Miami police issued a plea for information Saturday after at least one person with an assault rifle opened fire on a crowd of people on a street corner Friday night, killing two teens and wounding seven other people.
Miami police cordon off the area where a crowd of people was fired upon Friday night.
"We need the community to come together, someone come forward and give us a tip," Miami Police Officer Kenia Alfonso told CNN.
"There are a lot of people in that area. Someone must have seen something, someone must know who could've done this horrific crime."
Alfonso said two teens, ages 16 and 18, died in the attack, which broke up a game of craps in front of a grocery store about 9:50 p.m. Friday in the city's Liberty City neighborhood.
Five of the shooting victims were still in the hospital Saturday night, according to CNN affiliate WSVN.
Others told WSVN that a masked man with an AK-47 burst onto the scene and ordered everyone to the ground.
"Boy came round the corner; he was like, 'Get down,' and he just started shooting," 16-year-old victim Andrew Jackson told WSVN. Video Watch as resident describes scene as "war zone" »
Six of the nine shot were current or former Northwestern Senior High School students, Alfonso said.
"It was like a war zone," resident Joan Rutherford told WSVN. "I witnessed this guy laying there with his face, looked like it was completely tore off. His eyes was all I could see, and he had a grip on some money and gasping and trying to lift his head up to say something."
Police Chief John Timoney said that at least one man with an AK-47 "discharged numerous rounds, then ran around the corner. There were some more rounds discharged there from an AK-47 and another weapon."
One of those wounded was in critical condition Saturday and undergoing surgery, Timoney said.
"We are convinced that because of the amount of people out here last night that there is somebody that knows the individuals or individual involved, and we need them to come forward," Timoney said, according to WSVN.

"These are weapons of war, and they don't belong on the streets of Miami or any other street in America," Mayor Manuel Diaz said.

Listen to what this Rev. Jerome Starling has to say. Again they're blaming the guns and not the criminals that are using them.
"What we got here is some good kids doing some bad things."
"People are going through changes, hating on one another," said the Rev. Jerome Starling.

Re: Several Victims Are Shot In Liberty City
Hear that crap all the time, it comes from this bullshit new * cough cough * so-called parenting .... "My kid NEVER does anything wrong" and "We are ALL winners, there are no losers"
Half the parents out there have their heads so far up their asses it isn't funny and IMO THEY are the ones responsible for 90% of this bullshit happening. If you act like a parent, teach your kids right from wrong, are involved in their life and let them know there are consequences for their actions you don't have these problems.
If you watch some of the interviews with gang members (especially ex-members) they all say the same thing "they were looking for a family and they found one in the gang"
As long as this country (and others) subscribe to this psycho babble these so-called parenting experts spew along with parents that really shouldn't have been allowed to have kids in the first place we are going to have these problems. Add to this the 'welfare' state mentality that rewards people more benefits for having more kids and you really pollute the gene pool.
As far as CNN running with the headline "AK-47" ... seriously do we expect anything less from one of THE most sensationalized, liberal leaning media sources in the country?

Re: Several Victims Are Shot In Liberty City
WOW....
My hart goes out to the families of the dead kids...
The sensationalizing of this event is rather horrible and disgusting. The self centered political campaigning being done by the good Reverend is appalling. Jumping to conclusions about how the type of weapon caused such carnage is reckless at best.
All and all just what we should expect from cnn.
I lived in Miami Beach for 9 months with my girlfriend. We went down there for work. That is one of the most fucked up places I have ever been. You have portions of the city that are no go zones for regular patrol cars. You have corruption that makes the governor IL look like a boyscout. People down there refer to themselves as the furthest Metro stop (reference to how it is the play ground for NYC).
Now you leave Miami and there are some great people. The reservations and rural community are good folk. This is also not a race issue. Many of the rural southern FL communities are racially diverse and do not have the problems found in Miami...
I would guess they are calling the weapon used a AK 47 cause that is what people are telling them. Folks who I would imagine got their idea of a AK from TV or video games...
Even if it was an AK it is completely irrelevant. It was the shooters fault and not the weapons. Hell look at that day care in Belgium or that subway attack in Japan last year....
Remember folks if it bleeds it leads..the truth is only a minor detail...
