WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama began overhauling U.S. treatment of terror suspects Thursday, signing orders to close the Guantanamo Bay detention center.

Obama also has signed orders reviewing military trials of terror suspects and banning the harshest interrogation methods.

With three executive orders and a presidential directive, Obama is reshaping how the United States prosecutes and questions al-Qaida, Taliban or other foreign fighters who pose a threat to Americans.

The centerpiece order would close the much-maligned U.S. prisoner at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, within a year. It would fulfill a key Obama campaign promise.

nobody wants those criminals and I'm sure they don't want to leave their top-notch care in America and go back to their crummy countries.

Sometimes i wonder if it isn't better to get what they know out of them and then follow the mobs way of making people disappear. They aren't prisoners of war. If i was the special operations personal, FBI, CIA, and anyone else who was doing there damndest to catch these guys i would be MIGHTY PISSED right now. Talk about throwing crap in the face of the work those brave people of our country did.

As much as I dislike Obama this is one area he may just get right.

I belive in Human Rights, the right to bear arms being one of those as it is fundamental to the right of self defense.

We dont have rights because or constitution gives them to us. We have rights because we are human. Some would say they are endowed upon us by our creator. Our consitution only recognizes them, so as to help insure that we will not be the victims of tyranny.

Habeas Corpus is a human right.

Give them court. fair trial. let them state their case and see evidance. if they are guilty then let us as a civil society decide what fate they should suffer.

but to maintain prison camps off our shores and try to run circles around the law in order to indefinatly imprison people is not only unamerican it is immoral.

But it is a national political topic. Are the politics sections now only for national politics related to firearms?
