Re: Fidel and O ...and Hugo....ménage a trios?
I've got no admiration for either man although maybe a bit of grudging respect for Castro's staying power. Chavez is going to end up with a civil war on his hands soon if he doesn't disappear.
That said, I think that relations with Cuba should be normalized as soon as possible to dilute a resurgence of Russian influence so close to our shores. Also, which has been more successful for us and the citizens of their respective countries: 50 years of a US boycott of Cuba or 10 years of open relations with Vietnam?
Screw the Cuban American voting bloc in Florida, stop giving preferential treatment to Cuban refugees and improve the welfare of people stuck in Cuba by opening trade.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, whose government took exception to Obama's characterization of Chavez as "a destructive force in the region." Obama made the comments in an interview with the Univision television network.
Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro said he hoped Obama would "rectify" the comments, which he said showed his "total ignorance" about Latin America.
did you even read the article??
Were you able to comprehend it???==============
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, — go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!”
~Samuel Adams
"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it."
~Thomas Jefferson, 1791
