Default Another Intrusion Thanks to "Terrorism"

My mom was looking at possibly buying an Audi A6. She went to the dealership to borrow one for a couple days to see how it drives/etc. In highschool I worked at a BMW/Volvo/VW dealership and she borrowed cars a couple times, but this was the first time she borrowed from a place I wasn't working.

I have my audi serviced at this dealership and I know the service manager pretty well, so we aren't new to the dealership. When she filled out the paperwork, they had to take her license and call a number to find out if she was on a terrorist watch list.

I guess terrorists can loan cars? I'm not 100% she got the story right, but then again something like this wouldn't surprise me. Can't to anything anymore without the gov't making sure you aren't a terrorist. They probably used the warrantless bank monitoring program on her too lol.

    Correction..

You ARE a terrorist/criminal in their eyes until it can be proven that you are not.

I would have told them, "forget I'll go someplace else".

Agreed. If I ever attempt to do business with someone who makes me prove my innocence, deal off.

I'm not sure, since this is the only time my mom has officially borrowed a car, if this is common place. When I worked at a dealership I'd just go ask, grab the keys, and off I went. But she had to fill out all the paperwork for it.

I wonder if Rent-A-Car places do this now too? I'm not sure if this is a industry standard or just something this place does. Maybe its part of the Patriot Act? Who knows.
