"It is the right of an officer to check your car"...
Just was watching "Real stories of the highway patrol" and the guy actually said "It is the right of an officer to check your car if they believe drugs or illegal substances may be inside"
uhhh WHAT? wanna run that one by me again? The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.
Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

Re: "It is the right of an officer to check your car"...
I do not know about here, but In Canada they can "preform" a safety inspection that consists of checking the spare and jack... In Most cars, this means opening the trunk, but in a van or pickup, the tire is in the van and the jack in the truck cab.
Basically, once the door is open, they can continue their search. I have seen instances where there where "Seatbelt" checks also, ..
Can you step out of the car please, I need to check the seat belts for retention..
I have not seen anything like this here yet, but it will probably happen soon.Skeet is a sport where you are better to hit half of each bird then completely blast one and miss the other completely.

You are right Tootie, the government and it's enforcers do not have rights. They have powers. Powers, which are conferred to them by....the people.
