good first shotgun for left and right handed ?
I'm thinking to buy a first shotgun for skeet and trap, I'm right handed and my son is left handed, I was thinking in a Remignton 870 Express 28" but I saw it's comming with a safety for right or left handed.
Any recommendation or do I need two shotguns .

A pump gun is a little slow for clays as well, some guys can shoot them faster than a semi but not many. I started with a Traditions o/u and wore out quite a few until I bought my Beretta's. Lots of solid import choices out there that won't break the bank. A semi is no good for a lefty, a safety concern for sure.

How serious are you planning on using it? How much money are you planning on spending? You won't buy a used over under for what a new 870 is worth.

I don't know yet, we were a couple of times at a range an it's looks like we'll spend some time shooting but is too early, I want something Ok to start shooting and then move to another model if we really like it. I think I could spend around 500 to 600, anythink in that range ?

You should be able to buy a new Mossburg Silver Reserve, Spartan which is a Remington import, a few other off brands as well but I would look for a used Ruger Red Label, Beretta 686, 687, or any other current Winchesters or Brownings. A good used name brand will be better than "new" imports. Any of which will suit you well as long as the "fit" properly. Fit is the most important part of what you are looking for. There have been more competitions one with a cheap ugly gun that fit than a pretty, expensive one that didn't.

Thanks for the advice, I'll go to a gun show here in PIT this weekend to see the options.

A little bit more expensive, but the ithaca 37s, you have the bottom eject which is nice for right and left handers.

If you are intrested in possibly using it for stuff other then trap I'd like to throw the BPS (Browning Pump Shotgun) into the mix.
Its a pump, has plenty of options for barrel length and different barrels so you can use it for turkery, deer, fowl, clays... you name it.
And the shells load through the bottom and eject out the bottom. I'm a left handed shooter and I love mine, my brothers shoot right handed and also love it. shoots excellent from either side of the gun and can serve a lot more roles then an over/under
http://www.browning.com/products/cat...?webflag_=011BThe first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.
Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.
