22lr rifle for fun
Im looking for a 22lr semi auto for some fun plinking. Want something that shoots like a assult rifle. Big magazine (30 plus rounds). This is strictly for fun. All the guns I own are for target or hunting. I want to play.

Ruger 10/22. Many accessories available to do just about anything you want.
Basic model is about $200 new. Easy to find used, probably some now in the classifieds or check out www.perfectunion.com

Re: 22lr rifle for fun
Ruger 10/22, without a doubt.
Now, if you REALLY wanna get assault rifle style, you could get an AR-15 w/ a .22 conversion kit. But for the price difference, I'd say go w/ the 10/22 and stock up on mags in case they get banned again.www.bloomautomatic.com - Golf Ball Launchers for AR-15, SKS, FAL, and many others

Re: 22lr rifle for fun
I think everyone should have at least one 10/22. However, if you want a really cool mp5 .22 clone get a gsg-5. Until you are done spending all the money tricking out a 10/22 you have spent as much as the gsg-5 costs.
Here are a few youtube vids---they are not me though. However, mine (gsg-5) shoots better than my 10/22's do when using the high cap 10/22 mags.

Re: 22lr rifle for fun
you can even get a bull barrel and stock kit to make a 10/22 look like an ak if you want tactical .22 the 10/22 is only way to go even if left alone and just adding a hi cap mag its fun
A.T.F alcohol, tabacco, and firearms... who's bringing the chips?

Re: 22lr rifle for fun
Of the 4 rifles I own, a 10/22 is one of them. It's less than a week old, and got it at Cabelas with a coupon, of all things, for $180 and still have not shot it yet.

Re: 22lr rifle for fun
I must be the only person left who hasn't done anything to my 10/22. Except maybe add a scope...
Seriously though the 10/22 is probably the best bang for the buck. I had a GSG-5 Carbine sold it, and now it looks like I am getting another one. With the cost of .223 and 7.62x39 ammo going crazy I really am surprised these aren't becoming more and more popular. Now I just need to start hoarding 22lr ammo. haha
And while we are on the topic, which hicap mags are good for this rifle? The hot lips plastic mags I heard are garbage, while the metal lips one get better reviews... any other suggestions?
