Pistol training
Anyone know of anyplace around the Lehigh Valley or surrounding area that offers basic training with handguns in regard to grip and proper shooting techniques? My g/f is a new shooter and left handed, so it's harder to help her. She also can't break the habit of squinting her eyes and slightly lowering the gun. I also would like to take some defensive training classes. Any recommendations?
Thanks,

contact Jason@jsholsters.com
and/or check his webpage under training.
He uses Hellertown and Easton Fish and Game primarily.

Re: Pistol training
Practice dry firing at home.
#1 Make sure weapon is unloaded.
#2 Recheck to make sure weapon is unloaded.
#3 Place dime on front site.
#4 Slowly squeeze trigger so that dime does not fall off front site.

Re: Pistol training
Bob Bajor from gunskills.com was extremly accomodating to my wife and I last month. basically held a class for only us two as we have goofy schedules.

Re: Pistol training
I'd recommend a NRA First Steps Pistol class (3 hours) for a brand new shooter -or- NRA Basic Pistol (10 hours)

Re: Pistol training
Thanks for the info guys.
What courses did you guys take? Do you feel what you learned was worthwhile? Seems like the intro and beginner classes cover too much basic stuff for me. I know what parts of my gun are, basic handling and safety functions. My g/f knows the basics as well. She really needs help with grip and shooting technique. I don't want to have to sit through a 10 hour class with half of the time going over safety and gun parts.

Re: Pistol training
How much do you want to spend? The next level of training (outside of the NRA) will typically run you around $150-$350 per person and can cover a whole day (or two). Maybe you should check out one of the other posters connections first for rates and class content/requirements

Re: Pistol training
I don't want to spend a ton of money, but up to $350/person would be the max I'd like to spend. Basically I'm looking for defensive practices for myself, draw, firing while moving and whatever else I can learn. For my g/f I'm looking for the same thing, but first I'd want her to learn the basics of grip and trigger work.

Re: Pistol training
The cost was well under your limit of $350 / person.
We were under $100 / person.
Gunskills.com - Bob Bajor tailored the course to our level. Me having had prior training, my wife non. So it was a hybrid of the NRA basic pistol, first pistol and some aspects of concealed carry. We get credit for NRA first pistol since we were only interested in semi auto's, but it was really tailored to our experience.
