Mandatory Snap Cap Thread
Alright boys and girls..
lets discuss the exciting and amazing world of Snap Caps.
What are your favorites? Do you even use them?
Plastic, With a little spring, or do you prefer the all metal ones?==============
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, — go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!”
~Samuel Adams
"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it."
~Thomas Jefferson, 1791

Go with the A zoom brand...they are more realistic because of the weight...simulates a live round better...plus they are rated for at least 3,000 dry fires...I believe you get 5 in a pack.

I would like to know why snapcaps are usually 5x more expensive than the equivalent live ammo.

Snap caps "cost more" because you can use them for thousands of rounds...can you say that about live ammo?

Snap caps cost more because that is what the market is willing to bear.

when i bought my 9mm, i asked if the shop had snap caps and the dealer said no but just use a 9mm case with a pencil eraser in it. I still haven't gotten around to getting snap caps nor have i used the eraser trick. Do you think the eraser idea is good?

If you use an eraser you would have to cut it to fit inside of the primer pocket. Why not just spend $8 and get 5 snap caps that will last. I understand some folks like to tinker around and make their own stuff, but it's not as if $8 is that much money...I believe it cost more than $8, but you get my point.
You could just use once fired brass too. Just remember to change out the brass once in a while because if you dry fire it alot with the used brass...it will dent the primer.

Thanks for making me out to look cheap, Aubie! But I get your point. But my point was, would it accomplish the same thing without hurting the gun. I asked cause i never heard that before. I went to the gun show this weekend and couldn't find one snap cap in the place.

Cabela's, Gander MTN, Bass Pro all sell the snap caps. I have been happy with the A Zoom brand. I wasn't trying to make you look cheap...I have a friend that's really cheap. Nothing wrong with trying to save a few bucks. The eraser will work for you.
