High School Gun Teams - York County
I am very interested in finding out what local High Schools have shooting teams. I had found some info awhile ago that just about EVERY HS used to have a shooting team. I know for a fact that there is a (now defunct) shooting range in the basement of York Suburban HS and the 'old' Central York HS in N. York.
Anyone from the York County area able to tell me if there is an ACTIVE shooting team in any of the HS's?
Your help is greatly appreciated!

Would be interesting if the old Central High School range could be opened to the public. Maybe generate some income for the municipality.

The following schools in ne P.A. still have rifle teams:
Stroudsburg (for now)
East Burg North and South
Berwick
Emmaus
Liberty High
Freedom High
Abington Heigths (use North Pocono's range)
North Pocono
Salisbury
Southern Lehigh
Pleasant Valley had one years ago and Pocono Mountain School District just recently dissolved their team.

None of the York County Schools have official shooting teams or in-use ranges. I was in the last class that used York Suburban's shooting range (from what I understand) and I graduated in 1987.

Wow...now there is an honor! I had some talks with some school board members in Central as well as Suburban and (Belive it or not) there was actually DISCUSSION about having a range facility in the new Central HS. The idea peetered out due to cost and lack of interest. That simply boggles the mind, doesn't it? LACK OF INTEREST!! I think we are doing our youth a huge mis-service by not encouraging these types of events/teams. Even a non-school affiliated team would be a good thing!

It's generally not a lack of interest, it's due to the fact that many administrations and school boards are going "Left" with the ignorant fear that rifles in the school will cause a school shooting.

I wish parkland would have one. I'd join the team and I know other kids would. Anyone know how me and a friend could approach the administration about it?

Re: High School Gun Teams - York County
I would do some research on school teams. Find what other schools in your area have shooting teams and find out what type of teams they are. (Trap shooting, small bore, skeet, etc).
The NRA has been the forerunner for organized competitive shooting for..well...forever so you may wish to find out some information from their website and contact one of their competitive shooting people and get their reccomendations. They may even spearhead an initiative with you and others to bring to the administration.
I hope this helps put you on the right track! Please email or PM me and let me know how things are going and what the status is. I would like to help where I can.
Any other 'junior' shooters out there interested in starting up a shooting team?

Believe it or not,but they used to even have them rifle clubs in New Jersey: Passaic, and Clifton, but what happen was MAD: mommies against douchebags. They had a good cause, but just the absolute wrong idea, and way to much over power.
