Default Feedback on a Remington 742

    Hi All:

Have a chance to pick up a Remmy 742 Woodmaster with the BDL stock and a decent scope for 300.00. Gun in very good shape minus a little damage on the forestock. That doesn't bother me, I want this for a rough brush gun to do some hog hunting with freinds down south. I don't need a tack driver for under 100 yards, but I want something with fast follow up.

I've heard differing reports on the functionality of these rifles, and wanted any feedback from personal experience, not hearsay, if any.

    Thanks !

Owned a 742 30/06 in the 60's. It was a reliable gun and shot very acceptable groups at the ranges it was intended for. The only problem was when we tried Eagle mags. Only traded it off when we needed a M1A.

Thanks for the feeback Phil. I think I'll pick it up and give it a try.
