    Thumbs up sights for 30-30

due to eyes getting tired,[aka old] have a hard time seeing regular iron sights. i put a williams fp receiver sight hoping that would help. but can't seem to get accurate with it. trying to keep rifle as slimm as possible and to have as a knock around rifle something to put under back seat in pickup and forget about it until it is needed . don't really want a scope but may have to that route. trying to stay small and light as possible.thinking scope would take away from that . have a red dot laying in parts drawer off a mini 14 could use that but now have to worry about batteries being ready when i need it. any suggestions some type of small low power scope or something

XS sights but they may not be any better than your williams except that the rear aperture is larger allowing more light into your eye.

An optic may be your only choice. The newer aimpoints have incredible battery life that would solve your concern about readiness when needed but they are expensive.

A more economical option may be an XS scout mount with a leupold 2.5 scout scope.

There aren't any elegant options when eyes start to age.

Before buying the XS unscrew the aperture from your Williams and use the resulting hole as a ghost ring.

    Ditto the scout scope suggestion

My 50 year old eyes still work with the aperture but I see the time coming when they won't. Since I shoot a match that require open, I'll probably switch to a tang aperture sight.
