AR firing pin a little mushroomed, should I be worried?
While cleaning my AR I realized the tip of the firing pin is a little mushroomed, is this normal or should I be worried and change it out ricky-ticky? Gun operates just fine.
What do you suggest as a replacement, GI or something aftermarket like LMT?

ar firing pins are pretty cheap id just replace it with a GI one, unless you want one of those fancy metal pins

As I recall your LEO, if so is this a duty rifle? If that's the case I would replace it immediately. If your just shooting for fun I would buy another 2 mil spec FP's, when you start to get any problems with light strikes or any other firing related issue pull the old one and drop in the new on. Out of curiosity how mushroomed it is? If you've got a chance upload a picture so we can see how much damage is done.

When you say mushroomed:
Do you mean its simply rounded?
Or is it actually peened looking?
Rounded from what Ive seen is normal. this pin should be a lil on the hard/tough side and you really wouldn't want it to have square shoulders for a variety of reasons.
If its peened as in how an old chisel head looks, you've got issues and it should go.

them must be primers made of steel.
I think you posted this over @ M4c as well.
I'd like to know who you got it from and pictures if possible.
I would just order 2-3 new standard FP's and turn the one you have into a takedown tool or punch or somesuch.

Re: AR firing pin a little mushroomed, should I be worried?
It's more rounded then mushroomed. I took a closer look at it today when I tore the rifle down for cleaning. I think it's ok, but I'm just going to order a spare or two. I'd been planning on ordering a spare BCG anyway.
I bought the upper second hand, it's in like new condition but I don't know if the previous owner shot Wolf or some steel cased round through it before I got it.
Thanks for the responses.
BTW - I'm not LEO
