Default Grandfather gifted me my first gun!

    2 actually. One is a 16 gauge Winchester pump-shotgun, the other a .30-30 Marlin lever-rifle.

I don't know much about 16 gauge.. actually I don't know much about long guns in general. I'm left to assume 16 Gauge is exactly between a 12 gauge and a 20 gauge. I don't have a frame of reference, but the shotgun's barrel seems really long. The gun feels extremely light. It's got a jeweled bolt (Lightly rusted. Anyone know how to go about getting the rust out of jeweling?) and is dirty in general. I'll be cleaning it up shortly.

The rifle is absolutly beautiful. It feels quite heavy. I know nothing about Marlin Firearms Co to be honest. The scope has "Leupold" Printed on the scope and "Holden", "Ironsighter" on the piece holding the scope in place. The scope is in such a way that it still allows full-view of the gun's natural ironsights, and can be adjusted from 3x zoom to 9x zoom and everything in-between. Really cool.

I don't know much of anything about long guns. I suppose it's time I learn.

Terrible picture, I know. I tried making it less eye-soreful in photoshop. I'll get better ones tomorrow.

    Edit:

Shotgun is model 1200, rifle is model 336

I would hope that those stay as heirlooms in your family for decades to come. There is just something about a Winchester grandfather gun that is hard to explain. Thanks for sharing........

Now if it had been a old Model 21 it would darn right bring tears to my eyes.

Very nice gift. Try to rub some wd-40 into the patch of rust with your finger before trying any thing else. If thet doesn't work try the wd-4o with some triple zero steel wool.

Yeah, I tried wd-40 at first but I could tell it wasn't happening. It was rusted straight through the jeweling. I did end up taking it to steel wool and 600 grit sand paper. The jeweling is gone now but it looks clean.

    Nice pieces!

Dont ever get rid of either of those. You will be kicking yourself for life. I made that mistake once, and truly regret doing so even to today.

16 Gauge is an excellent choice for duck/waterfowl hunting. I've taken more than a few duck with my Browning Sweet 16. This was my first shotgun that belonged to my grandfather & my father gifted to me. Good Ammo is hard to find, but believe it or not I get target loads at Kmart. Excellent weapons. You're lucky to have them both.
