What do you use to get burn rings off the cylinder face?
Just wondering what the best method is to remove those pesky carbon burn rings on the face of my Stainless .44 mag cylinders? Hoppes #9 Solvent won't even touch the stuff! Anyone ever try vinegar? I hear that it is a cheap home remedy that works well. Any other ideas?

I cannot wait to see the replies as I've wondered this myself - but I might as well stop at Rich's reply bein' that he's an armorer! He oughtta know what works!Gary in Pennsylvania

If its stainless, put it in the dishwasher. I know it sounds weird, but It works. Its what my Dad did w/ his .357 for close to 20 years before he handed it down. You have to give it a good cleaning before and after, and put it in there by itself. Then oil it real good. Now this is not a regualr cleaning thing to be done after every range trip.
Just try it before you knock it.

ETA, Forgot to mention. Do not add soap, just let the steam and hot water take care of the marks. Dishwasher soap has small grnaules that can scratch the hell out of the finish.3%

The lead away cloth is easiest, but I really don't see the point since they're back the next time you fire it. Too much cleaning has ruined a lot of guns.

My damn stainless 44 has the same problem, I've just started to ignore it but I will try the lead away now that I've seen it.

Nothing. They are on my 686 and I just clean it as normal. I've never really bothered trying to get them off because of the hassle. Since they don't effect performance and I know the gun is clean, I just leave them.

I have polished my S&W stainless so, I use a dab of mothers billet polishing compound. no real pressure needed. cleans up like a mirror.
