Default Happy new year to me and everyone pics

Just picked this up, any suggestion on a finish or stain, I have teak oil should I just use teak oil directly on the wood or would it be better stained

I realize its subjective but feel free to show example pics or instructins thanks

Nice AK! Here's what I did to my WASR - not sure if yours comes with Cosmoline - mine did.

    1. Scrub the wood with mineral spirits to remove the Cosmo.
    2. Let dry thoroughly over 24 hours.
    3. Three coats of Minwax Sedona Red wood finish - let this dry about 8 hours between coats and use some fine steel wool right before each coat.
    4. Two coats of Zinsser Amber Shellac.
I read a tip on another forum to use an old T-shirt to apply the finish and shellac, rather than brushes. That's what I did and it worked great.

Personally, I don't like those finish jobs where the wood looks extremely glossy, so i was trying to avoid that.

Here are pics of my finished WASR.

Nice RPK bro. Here is my Romy in Russian Red. (Minwax Sedona Red) I dig the RPK's shot a friends up at LRGC on Sat. after the match. Think I might pick one up.

yugos usually have the teak wood. i believe some guns like the sks can have others like beechwood but i could be wrong. never really heard of using the teak oil. the boiled linseed oil and tung oil will darken it up some. you have to take the wood off and really rub it into the wood leaving it to dry inbetween coats. also may want to hit it with some really fine steel wool in between.
now to take my own advice and go do my own little yugo stash. good luck and post some pics when your done.

heres a tacked thread thats pretty good for you
