the reason i ask is i have been getting conflicting answers, one from my dealer and one from well lets say a nfa collector. my dealer told me its kind of a gray area and not to worry, well, i dont have that kind of money to defend myself so thats why im asking these questions.

Usually the reason it's preferred for those wondering is that it's got more weight and can sometimes increase the reliability of a gun with either timing or gas issues (short stroking etc)

Sorry to jump in here late but what is the difference between and auto and semi bolt carrier? How could one tell from looking at one if its an auto?
