Re: Researched by pics?
Yes and now you need to give all your guns to me in order to remain legal !!!!
Nah just kidding , dont worry this happened to me to out of the blue after many many purchases going right thru. They will call the dealer and approve you or deny you but they are taking time to look into something , like someone having the same name or something like that or I was told if they were busy sometimes they will just throw someone into research to put it off till they catch up.
Don't worry unless the dealer calls and says they denied you in which case you need to fill out the challenge form but if you know your ok then just sweat it out , all will be ok.

Re: Researched by pics?
It can take 2 weeks but usually is quicker . I think mine took one week but the dealer said he has even had them call back in ten minutes with an approval from research. In a worst case scenario , you havent heard anything in 2 weeks the dealer can then give you the gun but if they happen to call back anytime after that and deny you there can be problems. But dont worry you'll be fine , I know it sucks waiting but in the end when you have it in your hands you'll forget about it , its all good.

Re: Researched by pics?
Forgot theres also the chance they can call back and give and "undecided" decision , thats what happened to me. If it comes back as undecided you fill out a challenge form just like a denial. I did all this and now they assigned me a "upin" ID number so it never happens again , that made me happy knowing that I would be fine from here on out.

Re: Researched by pics?
When the dealer inputs all of your information (DL #) the system comes back with the info on the DL and the last 4 of the SSN and if the dealer says ok (presses 1) then the system kicks in. It is not just one system that checks you out, the info goes to several different systems. If any don't come back within a certain time, that system may be down, or many requests at the same time, or whatever, then it will go into research. If the sytem that PICS is waiting on comes back up quickly you may get an answer while you're still in the store. Or it may be the next day or a few days after that.
That said, if one of the systems generates a deny flag because of your name, etc. it comes back denied and you fill out the denial form. I know one guy that, although he had bought guns before with no problem, when it hit the INS's computer it showed something wrong and he got denied. It turned out that the INS had him being born in two different countries. Why it didn't come up before, who knows? He filled out the denial form and it was straightened out and he now has a unique identifier number that he uses so that it doesn't happen again.Ron USAF Ret E-8 FFL01/SOT3 NRA Benefactor Member
