Default Handgun virgin no longer ...

I picked up my first ever handgun today, a brand new Ruger SR9. I had been looking for a concealed carry gun and none of the compacts I tried felt right. I almost went with the S&W Sigma, but some unexpected overtime allowed me to set my sights in a slightly higher price range. I had the opportunity to hold both the Sigma and the SR9 in my hand and the Ruger won by a nose.

I haven't fired it yet, but when I do I'll put up a range report.

    On to the pics:

Congrats on you first CC gun.
I don't know anything about that particular model, but I do like the rugers.

    Default SR9 Range report

    Range Report Ruger SR9

    Time: 10:30AM - 1:30PM
    Conditions: Overcast & Breezy 10-15mph
    Temp :FRICKIN' COLD! ~35F

    Ammo Used:
Winchester White Box 115gr (1 100rnd box consumed, 1/2 - 3/4 of second box consumed)
American Eagle 115gr (50 rnd box consumed)
Black Hills 115gr (50 rnd box consumed)
    Total shots fired: 250-275

Targets: Paper plate with 1/2 inch dot in the center
    Stance: Isosceles

I'm going to use everyday items to describe shot grouping and such. I find its easier to understand when someone says their group was "palm sized" rather than saying 4 inches.

Initially I set my target at 25 yards and shot 34 rounds at it (2x17 rnd magazines). All shots were 6-8 inches to the right and an inch or two high. Grouping was poor, in fact there were no recognizable groups. I believe the poor grouping was more a factor of the shooter than the gun. I did not have the required tools to adjust the sights for windage, so I adjusted my point of aim and was rewarded with holes appearing on the paper plate. After the first 2 magazines I field stripped the gun, ran an oiled patch down the barrel and continued.

I moved my target closer, about 20-25 feet from the shooting bench. Point of impact and point of aim were close. POI was perhaps 1-2 inches to the left of where I was aiming and well centered on the paper plate. I shot about 200-250 rounds at this distance. All shots were WELL within the paper plate, most (95%) were within the diameter of a CD (compact Disk).

My best 17rnd string fit within the diameter of a WD-40 can, with one flier, the best 34 rnd string (2x17 rnd magazines) was about 6 inches in diameter (pics at the bottom).

Recoil was manageable, however after 250ish rounds, my hand and elbow can definitely feel it.

Whether it was strong hand, off hand, two handed, one handed, with a glove, without a glove, the gun felt good. It wasn't nose heavy, didn't feel top heavy, it felt balanced and a natural extension of my hand.

If there are any questions I didn't answer, let me know and I'll try to answer them.

Do yourself a favor for "safety" sake. Just run a clean patch down the
barrel, do not and I repeat, do not run a patch down the barrel with oil.
You may cause Increased Pressure in the barrel and something "nasty"
can happen, like watching the barrel blow up in your face. It has happend.

Nice pistol I take it there were no jams? Just as an FYI if you can keep all of them in a paper plate at 25 with a new pistol you're doing better than 80% of the folks I've seen shooting ( and i've seen a bunch)...
I live in WV , but I visit my Mom-in-law in York PA 8 to 10 times a year. Can I get a "Tourist" visa?
