A question for the computer gurus around here
Ok, here's a quick summary of a problem I'm having and trying to fix.
My friend had a sony vaio USB hard drive that he unplugged before the device was "parked" and it lost his file system. (his description, not mine) He has a lot of sentimental pics on the device and wants to salvage them if he can. He could care less about the hard drive and gave it to me to see if i can get his pics and other data back for him.
Does anyone know of a way to recover the device's file system, or get to the data so I can get his pics back and give it to him for xmas? lolZone1

Re: A question for the computer gurus around here
We had a hard drive go bad at work a few years ago. It had to be sent out to be saved. It was not cheap.
I am sure there are guys here more knowledgeable than I.
But does the drive do anything when you try to access it?troll Free. It's all in your mind.

Re: A question for the computer gurus around here
Excellent question, and I should have described that in my OP.
When I plug the device in, I get a pop up bubble that says the USB device has malfunctioned and is not recognized by windows. I try to locate driver for it, but it sits there searching for a while, and then says driver could not be found.
I can take his hard drive out of the case and put in one of my own and it recognizes it immediately. So the issue is isolated to his hard drive.Zone1

Can you read it when you put it in your pc? Sounds like maybe the usb enclosure may have died.

Re: A question for the computer gurus around here
I had that happen to a LaCie USB external drive recently, and there was nothing that could be done... hardware problem with the drive that MAYBE you could send out to an expensive place to try to recover the files.
With the cheap price of hard drives nowadays, there's no excuse for not backing up your files to at least one other device, CD, plug-in USB memory stick, etc.
