Thumbs up Turning 21, getting LTCF and New Firearm

    Hello everyone. Steve here.

    I am turning 21 on Jan. 7th.
I am going to apply for my LTCF permit then and buy a new gun.

A little backround- I have been shooting with my dad since I was 13. I have been to many safty classes. I am a member of the NRA.

There are two guns I am thinking about. I have done my research and these are the only two I am considering.

    1st- The Glock 26
    2nd- The Springfield XD9 Subcompact

If anyone has one of the above, or if you have info on them, please share. I am allways looking to hear more info.

As of now I am leaning towards the XD.

    Thanks guys.
    And
In January I'd like to meet up with some of you guys at the range with my 3 other shooting buds.

Congrats on getting the LTCF soon.

Either weapon is good, but I'd go with Glock since you didn't include a choice for a SIG.

Like the ET1 said both those guns are fine. There is a constant discussion here lately comparing Glock , XD and S&W M&P. I have all of the above in one form or another and they are all fine weapons. Very reliable and relatively accurate. IMO just go with whichever one YOU like best. For whatever reason. It"ll be fine and once you decide dont second guess yourself.

Whoa my son....you have many lessons that need to be learned and one of those is, when it is time to grow up one must step up his game and gear to the NEXT level. Do it ....trust me im a ninja and i stayed at a holiday inn express last night.

I do not like the feel of the M&P. I said I was made up on either the glock or the Springfield.

Everyone has there own likes and dislikes. A M&P will not make me "grow" up anymore than I allready am.

thanks for your input all the same!

I vote for glock. It's an easy gun to understand and parts are everywhere if you like to change things up a bit' Holsters are easy to find to.

Ahh my Son..... I have seen many opponents and it ends the same way every time, remember everytime you got to the range or just go to take a dump this could happen to you at ANY SECOND.

    Hi Steve,

I know you are interested in a 9mm, and I think thats a great choice for CC and for range usage since cartridges are so expensive these days. I own both a G19 and a SAXD. After shooting over 1000 rounds with each, I have developed some personal opinions with each.

    Glocks:

    CONS:

The trigger guard causes ulcers when I shoot multiple rounds due to the divot between the front grip and the posterior trigger guard.

The mag release unilateral, which I do not like.

I have wide hands, so the grip angle in relation to the slide is not ideal.

The trigger is rigid, which tends to cause discomfort.

Glock mags are a pain to disassemble.

The polymer frame is not as robust in comparison with the XD

    Accuracy

    PROS:

The glock Tefiner finish is still superior to the XD

Glock accessories are easier to acquire and more diverse

I find glock slides easier to clean, but not the frame

    Glocks are lighter, in general

    Diversity of calibers

    XD

    CONS

    Heavier

Finish, although revamped from the original HS2000 type, still has issues with scratching

Mags are of lesser quality in relation to glocks

    PROS

    Match Grade barrel

    Better quality frame

    Excellent accuracy

    Easier to clean frame

    1911 Ergonomics

    Bilateral mag release

    Cheaper for the time being.

Overall, both firearms are excellent choices with equal reliability. However, for CC purposes I would go with a glock. For service duty...an XD anyday...my XD is the favorite in my growing collection.

Also check out the P239 Sig, Walther PPK, SW M&P, and HK USP subcompact.

    Hope this helped.

Above is a RIDICULOUS assessment of XD vs Glock. Too many points to bring out, but was amazed at how one-sided it was when claiming to like both.
Both are fine, pick what fits you best.

Yea, I don't get the strange opinion regarding Glock frames. I've never heard about a Glock frame failing. If there are some facts to back up the statement about "non-rubust" Glock frames, I'd like to see them. And yes, go to a range and rent or borrow one of each. Buy whatever you like better. I'm sure there are members here who would gladly let you shoot theirs. I'd let you shoot my Sig P239 .40, but you seem set on Glock or XD for some reason. Research will only get you so far. You really need to shoot some different guns to get an accurate opinion. Good luck.
You can never have enough horsepower or ammunition.
