Berks County Sheriff Election
So I see Mandy Miller, acting sheriff, at some seemingly 2A friendly events, women's shooting practice, etc.
I don't see much about Chris Rothermel, other than his short bio.
Any insight from the Berks hive? Which one will be more like a continuation of Eric Weaknecht, who was very pro 2A?

Re: Berks County Sheriff Election
From what I have heard she is very pro 2A. IIRC she went to a woman on target course and spoke with the ladies. Her bio says she has been a Sherrif for 25 years and a lifelong resident of Berks Co. IDK how old she is but she is still easy on the eyes.
If you want, you can get the Berks Co. Sherif's app. You can read her bio, see Berks most wanted and some other things. My favorite is looking at the daily arrest in the prison. You can see mug shots and charges.Aggies Coach Really ??? Take off the tin foil bro.

Re: Berks County Sheriff Election
I remember around 5 or more years ago, the Berks County Sheriff's had an additional office at an airport and it was reported on this site that they had very fast service for LCTFs for both in state and out of state residents. That being said, it sounds like that changed to a slower process more recently.

Re: Berks County Sheriff Election
I don't know how it is today but when I got mine renewed a year or two ago, I filled out the form either online or mailed it in, I forget which, and they called shortly thereafter to make an appointment. No line, quick service and friendly deputy. Initially, I didn't like the idea but in the end, I prefer it.

Re: Berks County Sheriff Election
I saw info about a/some women's course(s), which led me to believe she cut from the same cloth as Weaknecht, and worked with him for a long time.
The challenger was a Reading PD captain, but all I've seen from him is 'the sheriff's office should be operated and managed like a Police Department, not a political office.' Not sure exactly what he means, but it doesn't quite sit right with me, like maybe he's implying the office shouldn't take any kind of stand for 2A protections. I personally have heard Weaknecht say he would never follow an order or take any action to disarm/infringe on firearms rights.
Rothermel also had a statement about being a VP of PSP training camps 'mentoring young people from diverse backgrounds.' Sound a little DEI-ish.

Re: Berks County Sheriff Election
I renewed my non-resident LTCF this month (Apr 2025) with the Berks Co office. Submitted the application online. It was approved in less than 24 hours. Picked up my LTCF card at the Reading airport substation. No problems at all. Very efficient. Nice, friendly folks at the substation who spent more time talking about the drive to/from the airport than it took to process my card. Seems like Sheriff Mandy Miller has everything working well.

Re: Berks County Sheriff Election
The guy who is challenging (ex Reading PD) spoke a little at one of our gun club meetings. It was a basic introduction, but he went into how he doesn't like how the sheriff's office is run and something about friends telling him he should run. I don't live in Berks county so I don't have any real opinion about the election. From what he had said though, he seems to be pro 2A and doesn't like red flag laws, but take it for what it's worth. I tend to believe all law enforcement lie to get what the want.

Re: Berks County Sheriff Election
Capt. Rothermel is a really nice guy. But Mandy gets my vote. She has run the Sheriffs office for years as the Chief Deputy. She'd highly competent, a 2A advocate and many off Eric's popular programs and ways to conduct business were her ideas. When a 2nd in charge works hard, makes the boss look good, and when the top spot opens, they deserve the opportunity to be the boss.
