Colorado’s New Tack on Gun Control: Make It Harder to Reload
First-of-its-kind legislation could reshape national gun-control debate as gun-rights groups say it will ban America’s most popular firearms

Colorado has taken an unprecedented approach to a decades-old dilemma for gun-control advocates: limiting the firepower of the popular AR-15 rifle.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, a Democrat, this past week signed one of the strictest gun laws in the nation. The law prohibits the sale of a range of firearms with detachable magazines, a feature on AR-15 rifles and many other modern firearms. Coloradans would only be allowed to purchase such guns if they apply for a special license and receive safety training.

Gun-control groups hail the measure as a bold step toward reducing the death toll in mass shootings because attackers won’t be able to easily reload when they run out of bullets. Gun-rights groups say the law is overly restrictive and are preparing lawsuits because the measure bans some of the most popular rifles on the market as they are now configured.

The bill’s chief sponsor, Democratic state Sen. Tom Sullivan, said the new law was needed because assault-weapons bans—long touted by Democrats and gun-control groups as an answer to the nation’s mass-shooting scourge—don’t work.

“We need to find something else,” he said. “It’s the number of bullets that puts the mass in mass shooting.”

Sounds like what Hawaii is going for. If they weren*t the most anti state before, I think they have that title now.

I was in Colorado 1958-59 stationed at Fort Carson, near Colorado Springs. In the Springs, people walked around town with guns on their hips. Had a girlfriend in Denver. We did lot of sight-seeing to incredible places. I thought about retiring in beautiful Colorado. That soon changed. The America I grew up in is gone, never to return.
There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.

The fat guy on the left hand side with the beard is named Tom Sullivan. He got into "gun control" because of one of his kids was killed in the Aurora Shootings.

Maybe he'll choke on a french fry someday?
