    Nah, all three shooters were volunteers... they wanted to kill that fucker.

    Possibly a myth, yes, but if there were four shooters, with one shooting a blank, there would still be only three holes.

    My question is, why do they shoot at the heart, instead of the head? Three rounds of .30-06 to the head simultaneously would be an extremely quick death (not that I care if the guy suffered a little bit).

    Eight Amendment to the Constitution protects US citizens from cruel and unusual punishment.

    The fact that it took the guy 80 seconds to die meets the definition of "cruel"... so, to your point a headshot probably would have been instant and not cruel.

    The way the 8th is worded, the punishment has to be both cruel and unusual, not cruel or unusual. If firing squad become the common method of execution then it's not unusual.

    Why does this always take 20 or more years to get done! Convict on Tuesday, execute on Thursday! Wednesday is for an automatic judicial revue of the conviction.

    Agree! The idea that the condemned get to die a painless death is stupidity! Personally i think public hangings should reinstituted!
