KelTec PR57 - 5.7x28mm Top Loading Pistol
KelTec announced the new PR57 today. It's chambered in 5.7x28mm, loads from the top with stripper clips, holds 20+1, optics ready, and uses a rotary barrel. Looks ugly, but in a good way. Like a laser gun. Weighs less than 14 ounces. I think I might get one.

Re: KelTec PR57 - 5.7x28mm Top Loading Pistol
I imagine this is in direct response to a few states banning semi automatic weapons with ejectable magazines.
I like it's shape/form but as far as practicality without mags, it's a hard sell for me.POOFA.net - A PAFOA lifeboat in troubled times.

I'm going to wait until someone else has beta tested it. If it seems OK, I will likely get one for a cheap range plinker.

Its definitely an interesting concept and might actually be a branch that carry pistol design moves down (though that is not super likely). It also give another actual use for the 5.7, a super light carry gun that still has full size pistol capacity and semi-decent wounding capability.

Looks like a possible back-in-Pennsylvania purchase.
Question...
Does the rotary barrel system allow for a round to remain chambered while the gun is being loaded via the stripper clip?

No, the rotating barrel just keeps the it locked into the slide until the pressure is low enough to be safe, otherwise its no different than a regular tilting barrel design. Besides that you would need to somehow keep the top round in the magazine from feeding when you dropped the slide.

The predecessor company, Grendel, did that with the P-10.

Re: KelTec PR57 - 5.7x28mm Top Loading Pistol
Thanks. I was just trying to figure out how it can hold 20+1 without having the +1 eject when the action is open to add the other 20 rounds. I realize I may be stuck thinking on the SKS action since I've only shot them and bolt action rifles, unless there is something different going on with the pr57 action.
