Youth Shooting Leagues in Central Pa
I’m about to rejoin the palmyra shooting club after many many years away. My oldest is now 13 and loves shooting. My question is does anyone know the requirements for the youth small bore program? I’m looking at getting him a target rifle but want to make sure it qualifies if he chooses to join the youth league. Is it bolt action only or would a 10/22 or similar semi auto be allowed?

Re: Youth Shooting Leagues in Central Pa
I'm involved as an instructor in one youth program and provide fill-in coverage for another. You pretty much have to see what the program you want to use is doing. The ones I'm involved with use bolt guns, but I do know of one program using M&P 15-22's. An issue to keep in mind is availability of good sights. We like the Olympic style.
When you start getting into Expert and Distinguished Expert, kids who can handle the weight do best with Anschutz. We use Ishmaz CM2 Scouts as our main target rifles. Smaller kids start off with Crickets and RIA M14Y's. The group I sometimes help with uses CZ's.
10-22 is a fun gun to shoot, but for serious target shooting a CZ would be a better choice. JMHOBoy, I say boy, you're reaching the limits of my medication!
