    Default National Concealed Carry

Trump mentioned this and I seem to remember reading in the past about possible negative problems with this. These were opinions by very pro second amendment people, but of course I can't remember who said it or where I read it.

Can anyone think of letting the government have more control, even if it's for a good idea, like the national concealed carry law? It would be nice if every state had constitutional carry and had to accept out of state visitors, but there might be a down side.

So, do I remember some negative opinions or am I nuts?

I think the biggest negative is that by making reciprocity national, then the Federal Government has control of the laws and regulations regarding reciprocity, and requirements for licensing, and places prohibited/off-limits for carry, rather than the States. It would be great to carry in every state with a license issued by the state of one's residence, but the laws would most likely continue to be increased, and carry rights continually neutered, to the point where it would be next to impossible to comply with the laws, especially for people who are only travelling on vacation through and to other states.
(Note that this isn't a negative opinion on my part on national reciprocity, just a possible downside.)

Also keep in mind that while the Republicans won the Whitehouse, senate and hopefully the house, National reciprocity is not likely to pass. Something like that would take 60 votes in the senate to override a filibuster which the republicans don*t have.

I do recall Trump talking about this during his first term, He essentially reasoned that a state issued carry permit should be honored nationwide as the permit holder traveled, exactly as your state issued driver's license is recognized with no federal restrictions or regulations

I suspect it will happen right after the ATF is abolished.

National reciprocity is a crock. What we should have is constitutional carry across the land. Except of course for active and retired cops- they should have to prove, qualify and be generally restricted. Because they need to be watched very carefully...

I would like to see a loss form of national recip. What I mean is the federal government making the states follow the national constitution. We shouldn't need another law or any other changes when we've got a constitution that plainly says "bare arms" and "shall not infringe". Just enforce what's already in place.

I agree, but national Constitutional Carry is highly unlikely. SCOTUS had a chance to make that happen with Bruen, but didn't.

However, with the Heller, McDonald, and Bruen decisions - Congress now has the authority to force recognition of all state licenses under the 14th Amendment. Which is better than what we have now.

I still wouldn't hold my breath with that happening. ....Way too many Fudd and Statist Republican in Congress.

This is the way I understand it as well----The federal government is not collecting your data nor making new carry laws---simply stating "if you have a CCW from any state it is acceptable in every state to carry".

I feel like this might be a good compromise and still think giving the federal government more power is always a bad thing.
