HUNTINGDON COUNTY, Pa State wildlife officials say a local hunter was hospitalized Saturday morning after being mistaken for game and shot by a fellow hunter in Huntingdon County.

Officials with the Pennsylvania Game Commission say authorities were dispatched to the shooting scene, in Barree Township, just after 10 a.m. Saturday.

Investigators say the victim, an archery hunter, was reportedly exiting the woods when they were shot by a turkey hunter.

Officials say the victim was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators say both the shooter and victim have been identified by authorities but their names are not being released.

Authorities noted that the incident occurred on the Penn State University Gamelands.

Recommend wearing orange whenever moving on public lands regardless of seasonal requirements. I always keep a hat and really large bandana to tie on something in my backpack.

^^^^^THIS^^^^^ Hunting is a relatively safe sport but like anything else you have to protect yourself from the morons and assholes.

Fudds are gonna fudd. Day drinking on the stand, "Sound" shots fired in the general direction of noise, Eye sight clouded by diabetes, and or old age.
The list is long on how the typical Pa. fudd is likely to fuck you up with their long list of poor judgement and traditional hunting rituals.

A friend of mine was shot in the thigh by a 12ga slug from over 100yrds away through thick brush.
He had to get medivaced to a hospital where he almost died. I think they were driving deer, can't remember the story.

You should see his leg, it's like a bowling ball hit it. He's lucky to be alive, as it hit that main artery.

Truth be told, hunting accidents are way down since the hunter safety courses were introduced back in the 1970s. And most of the shootings involve turkey hunters. Second on the list of hunting accidents are the archers who fall out of their tree stands. There will always be accidents. It's a human condition that manifests itself on the highways as well.

I know where the Penn State Experimental Forest is but I've never heard of University gamelands. Guess I'm just not part of the in the know club.
