Shotgun has a real capacity and range problem.

If you're talking about primary for HD, I keep a Mossberg 590 with a Defender Tactical mini-shell adapter installed, loaded with 10+1 Federal #4 Buck 1-3/4 Shorty rounds. The adapter lets me load 2-3/4 shells, as well as 1-3/4 rounds without making any changes. I see they now have a lifter that turns the 500/590 into an S model. I may upgrade to that for my 590 and my Shockwave. I also have a side saddle that has 2-3/4 slugs and 1-3/4 slugs, just in case. I have other guns that are designated for HD, but my shotgun is always my go-to.

For inside a house and when dealing with most threats, a properly configured shotgun has none of those problems.

I have a Remington 870 22 bbl with a +2 mag extension and a red dot. This is loaded with 7rds centurion 2.3/4 high brass buck and ball.
I keep it next to the bed in a scabbard, The scabbard sling holds another 20 rounds of buck and ball.
In the bedside table drawer is a G- 20 and 4 mags of underwood 10 mm 180gr jhp.
Yeah I like shotguns for hd
