Re: Shotgun as primary
Shotgun at close range will ruin your day. Not my first choice for home defense but I wouldn*t feel under gunned if it was.
Today was a good day!

Re: Shotgun as primary
fortunately I*ve never had firsthand experience and hope I never do. I recently switched to this shotgun as my go to HD weapon. It*s compact, I like the way it shoots, and am comfortable with it. I*ve practiced with it several times and have not had a single problem with reliability.
I*ve had handguns, ar*s, ak*s as go to hd weapons. I*ve thought about shotguns in the past but I wanted something more compact than the shotguns I have. In the back of my mind I have always had the concern what if I have to discharge my gun in self defense. Where I live it is not likely that I would wind up putting a bullet in someone else*s house but the possibility is not non existent. Not to mention the possibility of a quick reaction and shooting towards my son*s room.
With this shotgun I am comfortable with the self defense potential and not worried about over penetration. I do also keep a hand gun in reach also just because.

Re: Shotgun as primary
A better choice as a go to primary over an AR in general - as i said (insert larp here), meaning whatever the reader wants but mostly im thinking about without rule of law (wrol) NOT just home defense.
During the summer of love, i could actually hear ppl blowing up ATMs in the distance in my area of philly - and it wasnt west or even north philly... all in all as riots and unrest go, the summer of love didnt reach - thank God - actual without rule of law.. but i do feel it pushed the normalcy bias... what about the next or the next...
Its honestly more of a philosophical exercise than rooted in actual reality, but challenging/ interesting to think about what I practice with, invest time and money in, choose to "get good with" and whether those resources are better spentvon shotguns versus (lets say) an AR for my given environment (urban but semi-wooded)

Re: Shotgun as primary
If you're talking about a WROL situation, you're probably not talking about one home intruder. I have 5 and 9 round stick mags for 'ole bessy, or a 20 round drum, but it's big and bulky. Alternatively, there's the ps90, scorpion, kp9 which have 30-50 round options, low recoil, a better ability to stay on target, and less likely to cause collateral damage. You can move from target to target very quickly and easily, and you have a small chance at retaining your hearing.
Alternatively, if you are talking battle rifle in the field, you want to be able to cover some distance with a fair degree of accuracy, and have that 30+30 round capacity.POOFA.net - A PAFOA lifeboat in troubled times.

Re: Shotgun as primary
If you're talking about more than a HD gun, then you want a centerfire rifle. Doesn't matter if it's an AR, AK, or something else. It just needs to be accurate, portable, easily repairable, and easy to find food for it.

Re: Shotgun as primary
I don*t see why a shot gun would be a bad choice. I use an Extar EP9 with a red dot and a 30 round fun stick as my primary HD weapon.
Don’t like me ???? Tough, I don’t give a flying f@@k about ya.

Re: Shotgun as primary
Let's be honest, no one in their right mind is charging a person armed with a .22 lr pistol, however, these days we cannot expect to be dealing with a sane and/or sober individual or group. Within the confines of my home, in an actual defensive scenario, not in a WROL world, a shotgun with defensive rounds is an excellent HD weapon, IMO.
In a true WROL scenario, I's rather have an AK or AR10 with hi-cap mags.

Re: Shotgun as primary
I sold my shotgun several years ago.
I sold the shotgun I owned before THAT one many years ago.
On paper they are excellent firearms that are well suited for all sorts of roles.
I bought them because of this ^^^
In practice, I never enjoyed shooting them, and ultimately accepted that shotguns just aren't for me.
