Default AR15 charging handle not locking bolt back

I got an extended latch charging handle for an AR and found it won't lock the bolt back on an empty chamber without using a bit of force. When a magazine goes empty it does lock back, but not when manually pulling it back. If I slam it open, the bolt catch does work and hold it open.

I switched it with a 9mm AR pistol and it does lock back easily in that gun when using the bolt catch.

So, what is the problem and is it the charging handle or something else? I can still use it but wondered why this is happening.

If it worked correctly before the new charging handle I*d say it*s obvious that the new one is the issue. Sounds like it*s out of spec dimensionally to me. Chinese junk or what.

Is there an empty mag in the rifle when trying to lo k it back?

    Who makes the charging handle?

It's a brand new Vltor Mod 4 charging handle and as I said, it works well in an 9mm AR pistol.

It locks back with an empty mag in the chamber, but it takes a bit of effort to lock it back when the chamber is empty and no mag inserted. That doesn't happen with the 9mm AR pistol. I'm guessing it's either tolerance stacking or completely out of spec.

OKon an empty rifle no mag,
so you pull the bolt handle back, and manually push in the bottom of bolt release button to catch the bolt, but there's resistance when your trying to engage the bolt.
Maybe polish the bolt catch face with a dremmel and some rubbing compound? I would suspect there's a few thousands off from one manufacturer to another

Sounds like a simple fix. File (or stone,if too hardened) the flat that slips into the "grab receiver" mode. If it fits other guns, I'd suspect receiver specs. Just custom fit it.
There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.
