    Default Help appraising 1911?

As you may or may not have seen, I have my Springfield Custom Shop 1911 up for WTS/WTT in the classifieds. The problem is that I have no idea how to go about coming up with a price. Do you think the Custom Shop would be able to assist if I called them?

It's a government size 1911, hard chrome, made in the Custom Shop in the late 90's per Deb in the Custom Shop. I was thinking of taking it to a gun shop for an appraisal, but I don't know how much I trust what they would tell me.

    Thanks for any help.

Pics at link above. Also specs. I bought the gun used, so I cannot be completely sure what was done at the CS. The only thing Deb at SA could tell me from the serial number was the date of manufacture.

As the owner of a small shop, I would NOT recommend getting an appraisal at a gun shop!!, big or small. The only thing I can recommend is checking the last 90 days sales on gunbroker.com, searching for like firearms. You may also try Auction Arms.

Yep I kind of figured I could count on an inaccurate quote from a dealer. I'll do some searching on the auction sites and call Deb at Springfield tomorrow. I want to move this gun, but I want to make sure I come up with an accurate price. I do not want to screw myself or a fellow gun owner.

I would talk to the SA CS and see what they say. I just looked at my Blue Book of Gun Values and without even more info I wouldn't want to hazard a guess. Nice looking gun though.

My opinion would be $800-$1000 maybe a little more to a Springfield guy. More of a Colt guy myself but follow 1911's for the most part and thats probably pretty close.

I was thinking around the $1,000 mark. It's really weird trying to sell a gun and not knowing what to charge!

I know nothing at all about appraising any guns, but a good theory to work with is to price it high at first and any interested parties can haggle down to a better price later on.
