⚠️What you need to do if you’re a Pennsylvania resident with a NYS pistol permit
fukh.png
N.Y. (WETM) – If you’re a Pennsylvania state resident who holds a New York State pistol permit and you received a letter from the New York State DMV, the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office has announced what you should do in response.
The Chemung County Sheriff’s Pistol Permit Office has received calls from several concerned Pennsylvania residents regarding a letter that they received from the New York State DMV. The letter states that the person’s Pennsylvania driver’s license will be suspended due to also having a New York State non-driver ID.
If you’re one of these people, the sheriff’s office is advising you to do the following:
Make a copy of your New York State non-driver’s license or keep a record of your license number for future recertifications required every three years by New York State.
Make a checkmark on the “I will surrender my NYS Non-Driver ID” box on the letter, and return it along with your New York State non-driver’s license to the address on the letter.
These steps should be completed by Friday, Aug. 9, 2024. The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office apologizes for any confusion this may have caused and assures that those who have received the letter will not see any effects to their pistol permit.
Anyone with additional questions about the situation is encouraged to contact Amanda Lord at the Pistol Permit Office at 607-737-2937.

What 'non-driver's license NYS ID' would a PA resident have, or does it mean the NYS pistol permit?

What does having an ID card have to do with having a driver's license?
This planet seems like it gets dumber every day.
Are they gonna start cancelling driver's Licenses if you have a passport too?

Re: ⚠️What you need to do if you’re a Pennsylvania resident with a NYS pistol permit
What would happen if you let the driver's license lapse and then go reapply? How does NY have the ability to invalidate a PA DL? I don't accept Carson's word (nothing personal) here on this. As coat4gun notes, then any of us with other out of state licenses would be subject to the same shit.
I can understand not having more than one driver's license, as they are 50 state reciprocal. Gun licenses are anything but...

Re: ⚠️What you need to do if you’re a Pennsylvania resident with a NYS pistol permit
There seems to be some confusion here. The letter from PRNY is referring specifically to the NYS non-driver ID card. It is, for all intents and purposes, akin to a driver's license (but it does not grant driving privileges).
Essentially, they're saying you can't possess two "drivers licenses" (even if one is a non-driver ID card). This is not the same thing as a passport, or CCW permit from other states, etc. This likely came about because in order to re-certify NYS pistol permits, a person needs a NY ID number (obtained from a driver's license or non-driver ID card). So, non-resident permit holders needed to obtain a non-driver ID in order to re-certify their permits. And are now being told that doing so is illegal.
Leave it to PRNY to criminalize the very actions they require for a person to follow the law. Or, I guess more accurately, to require criminal actions to satisfy the legal requirements they have imposed.

and Chemung County is rather conservative as far as NY State goes.
