I don't understand why "early voting" is allowed, but "late voting" is not allowed.

I mean - it would be helpful to a lot of people if they had the opportunity to see what the preliminary totals are, and then have, say, 1 week, to go "vote late" in an effort to affect the result.

For that matter - why not count and publish "early votes" as they come in? People could see how the race is going and it might encourage more people to go vote. If nothing else, it would give the vote counters a head start on election night and move things along.

Too much voter psychology at play if they publish the early tallies. Some might say "hmmm, not worth the effort, my guy is behind and my vote isn't going to matter" or some might see it as a visible target if they are manufacturing votes. I understand why they are not permitted to report any vote counts until the polls close, at least in theory.

Neither one should be allowed. Along with the mail in BS.

I totally get the frustration, but not voting feels like letting others decide for you. I’ve been in similar spots where I felt like my vote wouldn’t matter, especially after hearing all the talk about the 2020 election. But in the end, not voting just means you have no say at all. I’ve always thought that even if the system isn’t perfect, it’s still better to participate and try to make a difference where I can. At least that way, if things go south, I know I did my part, and I can still keep pushing for change in other ways.

This is the real reason they do not want voter identification. It establishes solidly the number of total possible votes. We always strongly suspected Biden's 81 million votes was greatly exaggerated, now we know, with Harris getting less than 68 million. A solid 10 million votes were created out of thin air for Biden because no one knows how many actual eligible voters exist.
