I wouldn't be so sure. The propaganda machine has convinced about 50% of the populace that we are racist, fascist loons. How much of a stretch is convincing a group of very young people that we are an existential threat to humanity, especially when they have a captive audience? You might remember that small city between Dallas and Austin where the government protected the civil rights of men, women and children so well.

The vast majority of service members would legally (and morally) refuse a direct order to shoot US civilians.
Most all service members have wives and kids at home who they want to go home to, (ie, they don't want to risk them).

I presume that service members would be required to deploy deadly force against civilians consistent with LE guidelines. For example, I assume that deadly force toward a 'Timothy McVeigh' would be handled like any other civilian threat, regardless if he was characterized as a 'domestic terrorist'.
