Default Steamtown Mall in Scranton has gone full anti-2A

A bunch of signs have popped up in every entrance to the Steamtown Mall, aka The Marketplace at Steamtown, with the following: "Firearms are prohibited on these premises, regardless of a concealed-carry permit".

I e-mailed the mall and got the following response:

Thank you for the input. I fully understand both sides of the issue.
We went through great lengths and expense to “ arm “ and train our public safety department.
We have had issues with untrained individuals unfortunately with weapons in the past.
We sent our staff for the required “ State of Pennsylvania “ formal training to obtain this certification.
Our public safety department “ trained staff” do carry firearms and do protect the facility in uniform and undercover unlike most facilities in the area.

Having no signs is an invitation to anyone to enter with a weapon and I am not comfortable doing that .
We also encourage all Law enforcement to carry on and off duty.
Allowing anyone to enter with a firearm is a liability for us. The vetting at the sheriffs is minimal and no formal training is required.
Removing the signs circumvents the legal statue needed for prosecution of trespassing with a firearm.

... and then they wonder why malls are dying.

Not that I am suggesting anything but it is called concealed carry for a reason.

Sounds to me like they are accepting liability for protecting guests. Let's hope their "trained security" is everywhere, all the time.

That sounds like a reasonable response to me. You even received a first person reply. If I owned the mall, I*d do the same thing- I just wouldn*t look too hard for people violating my signs.
If the guy has an armed act 235 force on duty, he committed to action when he didn*t have too. Regardless of your opinion of the competence of act 235 guys, at least it*s something.

He*s heading off problems at the pass. There are a few open and concealed carry morons that ruin it for the rest of us. This strikes me as a regrettable balance.

OC is more prevalent in the central and northern tier than down here in SEPA where it can quickly attract LE, (i.e., not as many guns walking around our malls).

Regarding ACT-235, I was high score in my class last June. Although, it wasn't difficult to beat some of them in the class.

    Yes. Yes it is.

We wouldn't want to circumvent a legal statue.

Ok. So if the sign and armed security are their reassurance of safety and protection, and you get shot by a bad actor, you should sue them for not protecting you as they said they would.
