how do you clean laser ebgraved aluminum

I have a PAFOA AR lower, as many of us do. I also have a set of laser engraved alumagrips on my 1911.

It seems that oils soak into the engraving, and they are dull and discoloured from it.

How do you get them back to their original look ?

Once clean can they be sealed or anything ?

Dawn dish soap worked at first, but it didn't even make a dent last time.

I would say try pure alcohol + a fine bristled toothbrush.

to clean markings of grit and grime safely, without worrying if i'm going to burn thru the finish, i use a soft white rubber artist eraser.

pick one up at any arts/crafts, or office supply store.

do NOT get the gray/white abrasive one for ink.

this also cleans up fine beadblasting on knife blades, removes residue from ceramic sharpeners, etc.

I used non-chlorinated electrical cleaner sprayed onto a paper towel. Wipe the engraving with the paper towel until the darkness disappears and restores the whiteness. YMMV.
