    Default Budget NV options, suggestions?

Looking at potentially adding NV/ballistic computer/rangefinder to my collection to run on the 308AR build. Any suggestions? Most of the ones i see are only good out to 300m max NV. And they are all pretty much just cameras with extra bells and whistles.

I’d like something that can pair with a Vortex 4-16x scope, but am not against using a standalone setup if it has built in rangefinder and ballistic computer. There is a chinese knockoff of the new Vortex produced for the US military, but its 1200m rangefinder 300m IR with 4x zoom.

Looking at the Pard, Megaorei 4B, Henbaker CY789 and some unbranded ebay options. So far, the CY789 is leading the pack, but for $500 +with the laser rangefinder attachment i’m betting there are better options.

I just saw a night vision gadget at Walmart on clearance for $90. Looked like a monocular type thing.
Reg price was $220 I believe.
Need a gazillion other things more than I need that, so it's still there.
I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Holosun came out with a couple, one night vision and a thermal. Night vision is around 1k and looks to be a nice unit with good reviews. I plan on checking one out first chance I get and will probably get one.

Cheap and night vision don’t go together and this is one hell of a rabbit hole. Just be forewarned.

I suspect its a case of the people who have good night vision spent thousands on it, so of course they're not going to consider the possibility that something that only costs a few hundred could serve the average person's needs.

That being said there's a pretty big difference between stuff you strap to your head so you can walk around in the moonlight and rifle optics. I would not bother with cheap night vision on a rifle.

Let me back up here a bit…the intended use is for occasional coyote and hog hunting, with night target shoots being the most likely (think URC shoots in reading). Hence why i dont want to spend a ton on something. Realistically, the ebay chinesium ones would be good enough IF they actually range to 300m.

That said, if you had to choose between NV and thermal, which would be better option? I leaned toward NV (with limited research) because its more adaptable to the scope i currently have. But the ATN Thor just caught my eye and i see them pop up regularly here in the fs forum at good prices used.

That*s just throwing money away imo. I think the only cheap option right now is the new holosun that came out, going to be around 1k dollars and I can*t say for sure it*s worth that without personally seeing or trying one.

As for thermals, that*s going to be a minimum of 3k and probably more like 4K to get something decent.
