    Default ⚠️20 LEAD POISONING CASES IN PENNSYLVANIA LINKED TO TAINTED APPLESAUCE

    The Pennsylvania Health Department says it has reported nearly two dozen cases of lead poisoning to the CDC in connection to tainted applesauce.

    At least one of those cases is out of Philadelphia.

    Those numbers include 22 probable and one suspected case of applesauce packets that contained high levels of lead.

    They were sold under various names, including WanaBana and Weis store brands.

    Impacted Pennsylvania counties include:

    Allegheny Co.
    Cumberland Co.
    Chester Co.
    Delaware Co.
    Erie Co.
    Mercer Co.
    Monroe Co.
    Lancaster Co.
    Montgomery Co.
    Northumberland Co.
    Philadelphia

    Actually Ecuador. A company there supplied the cinnamon and the lead levels were way higher than can be normally explained. They are thinking it was an intentional adulteration. These applesauce packets were marketed for kids, which isn't good at any level, but I doubt "Lead Poisoning" meant anyone actually got sick. Just that some kids had lead levels that were elevated according to the governments watch level cutoff. With stories like this it is hard to tell how bad it really is since some kids are already at the elevated lead cutoff without eating any applesauce and median levels for kids in the 80's were 5X higher (and probably much higher before that).

    And the FDA is reporting over 470 probable cases in 44 states.
