Ammo worth
I have about 1k worth of some old TCW 7.62x39 HP ammo imported from Russia. (With about 500 rounds worth of the boxes still). Is it more valuable than market price x39 just because it’s Russian and no longer imported? Competition season is coming up and I wanted to run one of my Aks in a few matches and if it’s collectible I’d rather unload it to someone who collects rather than burn it down range. Thanks.

Re: Ammo worth
If I had that stuff, I would save one box for my cartridge collection and shoot the rest. It may become collectible in several decades when it becomes rare. That stuff was imported by the sea container for years and is hiding in many basements and closets.
Even then, cartridge collectors are few and far between, and usually hard to find. They also don't buy multiples of the same thing (usually). They will only want one round, or one box per lot number.
Now if you had a case of 7.62x39 API, you would have some money. In America arms are free merchandise such that anyone who has the capital may make their houses into armories and their gardens into parks of artillery. - Ira Allen, 1796

I don't think you could get more than going market price. Cartridge collectors are few and far between.
People will buy it though for cash to keep the man out of their life.Last edited by bortle; February 21st, 2024 at 09:35 PM.

Re: Ammo worth
I'd hold onto it, it might bring a slight premium now, but in a few years it could become desirable. There isn't a whole lot of the early white box stuff floating around, though I doubt the loose rounds would ever get much interest.
Given the huge number of "brands" Russian ammo has been sold under, and just how obscure a lot of them are I would be shocked if it never became an interest to collectors.

Sell. Invest money in an S&P 500 fund. It will all but certainly outperform any value increase of that ammo over a 10 year period.

Maybe you ought to save it. You might need it. The world is going to hell in a hand basket. That's what the internet told me.

Re: Ammo worth
Tho OP probably paid 10 cents a round or less (shipped). Why would he save them then spend another $500+ to replace the 1000 rounds with new ammo?

Re: Ammo worth
I'd probably keep a few and shoot the rest, as others pointed out there's likely lots of it sitting in many homes.

It's not worth $.85 a round.
