bring your owm ammo for rental gun

Hi. Is there a range in or near Bucks county that will allow you to bring your own ammo to use in their guns? Any advice would be appreciated.

Freedom Firearms LLC in Stroudsburg, PA let you use your ammo after they inspect it for steel/piercing, but they are 2 hours from me.

No. And I don't think you will find any commercial range anywhere in Pa.

Target World will let you. They will check it with a magnet to make sure it is not steel.

Wow. First I heard of that. I thought all private ranges required you to shoot their overpriced ammo in their rentals.

Sorry, I mis-read the original question. Checking their FAQ about the range, if you do rent, you have to buy ammo through them.

About 30 years ago I was shooting skeet at a private range in Delaware where they had loaner shotguns. Some guy rented one and started shooting some kind of very loud (probably reloads) out of it. I didn't see it happen but we heard a loud boom they saw him being helped away bleeding from his hand or arm. Then later some guy following carrying pieces of a shotgun and a shredded barrel. After that you could still rent shotguns but you had to use their new factory ammo. No problem with that since it is due to liability.

About the same time I went to a large indoor range in Delaware and rented a pistol to try out. They made me buy a box of new ammo and I had no problem with that but then noticed they were watching me the whole time to make sure I wasn't using my ammo in it (I wasn't). I returned the pistol, went back and started shooting my own guns and ammo. Not long after they said my reloads were too smokey and I needed to buy their overpriced reloads to shoot. Just packed up and left. I did have a problem with that since that was due to greed.
