Wondering what is the best semi auto pistol you've ever shot?

Don*t laugh please, picked up an early rock island 1911 commander size .45 when they came out. The gun rattles like a can of marbles. It*ll swallow anything I put in it and does it accurately. Not the best on anything, grips, trigger, sights ect.. it all just works. I*ll never sell it.

Coupla years back Wilson Combat had a booth set up in a bay at the IDPA US Nationals. I don't remember the exact model but I shot a mag or two thru a 9mm 1911. Glass-rod trigger and a slide that felt like it was on ball bearings.

Back in '89 shot a range rental Springfield 1911 9mm. My only experience at that time was rack-grade Army-issue 1911s. I hit a hanging steel dinner plate at 15 yards with 7 of 7 in under 9 seconds and couldn't get the sights to move off target. I became a true disciple of the 1911 that day.

Ditto on a S&W 41. Well broken in. Runs like a sewing machine. If you can hold it it is damn accurate.
A Browning Hi Power is no slouch either. Old school classic.

I also have to go with the S&W 41. Mine's a 7-3/8" A-serial prefix. ORH accuracy at 50'. I found a unicorn Model 41 5-1/2" lightweight "field" barrel at a VA gun show in the early 80s for $50, and it is just as accurate when mounted on the 41 frame.

A close second would be any of my Dan Wesson 1911s, in 45 ACP, 38 Super, and 9mm, or either of my SIG P210A or P210 Carry. All shoot better than I can hold anymore, and are boringly accurate.

A S&W model 52, .38spl wadcutter only. It was one of my highschool friend's dad's gun. He was into some competition shooting down in FL back in the day. Not sure what all he did to it, but the trigger was very crisp and the gun was stupidly accurate.

Even today, some 30+ years later, I still mentally compare whatever semi-auto that I shoot to it for accuracy.

I liked shooting it so much that I bought a "brick" of .38spl wadcutters boxes. ...(10)x50rd boxes. I still have 3-4 boxes of it left that I've sat on since the late 1980s/early 1990's. Unfortunately he passed away in an auto accident. My friend inherited that gun, then later pawned it off for beer money. When he told me that, that was the last time I spoke to him(circa mid 90's).

Have to agree with the S&W 52 (have two, plus a Model 41) but I would also add an S$W 745 and a Sig210 (Old version). Dave_n

I cannot decide unless i had them altogether which i dont own the sig or staccato
*** CZ Shadow II (mine) or the Sig 226 SAO legion (i want this one but cannot justify ) or maybe the xl staccato i tried......

Lots of criteria to say the best but when I consider accuracy, control, trigger, caliber, capacity and weight mine is the Shadow Systems CR920 Elite.
