I would say that having both on is really prohibitive to communication because honestly if I just have one or the other on without a microphone, either way, I can hear the same amount. Add a microphone but still where internal plugs it still seems like it*s a block, so not really sure what the benefit is there.

So do I. However, I don't like talking to people at the range, so no problem not being able to hear them.

Uh…. How do you pipe comms into foamies when training dynamic entry CQB with teammates??

I guess if you’re plinking at trash or simply shoot at static ranges, then it’s your call and base it on comfort.

If you’ve taken your training far beyond that… You probably already have a set of Peltors/etc. in your kit bag, amongst other tools.

Those cheap Walkers are actually quite good for the price… and I believe you can Bluetooth your phone into them yet still prioritize radio traffic, though I’ve not tried.

Rattle-canned Walker Razors are hard to beat for what they are… very useful.

Why would I buy an expensive set of noise, canceling microphone activated, blah blah blah when you get better hearing protection with the cheap foam ones?
Because it's nice to hear everything around you without the loud bangs. At long range it's also easy to pick up when you're hitting steel when shooting long distance shots.

The electronic muffs are very handy if you*re taking a class, instructing etc. They let you hear what*s going on around you which is important on a shooting range.
I*ve used them almost exclusively, including overseas- convoy ops required eye and ear protection under a helmet. The electronics allowed one to hear the radio and other vehicle crew members.

In addition, you should wear the foam or other type plugins at the same time. You can still hear through the push ins. Push ins alone do not protect your hearing like a full ear cover. If you only use the push ins on the range, your hearing WILL be damaged.

Some of us had that training a long time ago and prefer to just enjoy shooting while preserving what hearing we have left. But have at it Mr. Mitty.

I only know three. One is static and two are animated.
