Activist Nuns Sue Smith & Wesson
Q: What makes the recent shareholder lawsuit against Smith & Wesson unusual?
A group of activist nuns who collectively own about 1,000 shares of Smith & Wesson filed a shareholder lawsuit to pressure the gun maker to drastically change the way it markets, makes and sells its popular version of the AR-15 rifle, which has been used in several mass shootings in recent years. WSJ reporter Cameron McWhirter spoke to us about what makes this type of lawsuit different from others.
A: “In their lawsuit, the nuns argue that the way Smith & Wesson has made and sold the AR-15 rifle exposes the gun maker to liability and puts shareholders at risk. In the past, the nun groups have pushed for changes at Smith & Wesson through shareholder resolutions but had little success. Shareholder derivative actions, as such lawsuits are known, are a common legal approach for shareholders unhappy with the leadership of publicly traded corporations. But lawyers say the nuns’ lawsuit appears to be the first one against gun makers over the manufacture and marketing of guns.
One major hurdle facing the nuns’ suit is a 2005 federal law that protects gun makers from liability if their products are used in criminal acts. Company lawyers certainly will challenge the suit on these grounds. But a 2022 legal victory for the families of those killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre has brought a flurry of suits against gun makers. That suit argued that Remington, the company that made the rifle used in that mass shooting, could be held liable for negligent marketing. Remington settled with the families for $73 million.”

The Catholic Church is nothing more than a globalist leftist government operating as a religion.
It should be stamped out.

Maybe they should just sell their shares and then they won't be at risk.

Re: Activist Nuns Sue Smith & Wesson
See, you can pass all the laws you want and the leftists will find a weasel way around them. Remington settled the law suit which was complete bullshit and now the leftist weasels will use that precedent to keep suing gun manufacturers. Leftism is a mental disorder.

Suing a company for them making what they're known for. Next let's go after Aquafina for making water wet.

Can't imagine why the Catholic church is hemorrhaging members over the last 4 decades.
