    Default Youth BB gun options

Thinking of getting my oldest son a BB gun for Christmas. Start teaching him safety and basic fundamentals of shooting. What options, other than a red Ryder, are there for fairly basic Bb guns? Not opposed to the RR but don’t want to miss out on a better option because of ignorance.

    Thanks

My son is 9, just bought this:

He's shot my old 66 Powermaster before, but I used that thing UP as a kid and just want to retire it. We will continue on with this one. Supposedly shoots a little harder which is a plus to me.

Got my sons a red ryder bb gun at 10.My parents said they can shoot their eye out, thankfully never diid. They graduated to a single shot 22lr rifle that would take CBs they did a lot of shooting in the winter in our basement.

For the fun factor I would look for a lever action spring gun. The pump ones might be more powerful and versatile, the kids get tired of pumping and might not get it at first. My kids had a total blast with the lever action gun from my Pop but when I got a pump for them for Christmas, they used it only a couple times and asked for his. It is just more fun.

If you have a Rural King, Dunhams or Sportsman's Warehouse nearby check those out, they normally have a pretty good selection of bb/pellet guns. Are you considering any co2 powered or pump only?

9 YO? hes olde enough for more serious stuff than a red ryder.
Crosman 1322 with the carbine shoulder stock. When they get older take the stock off to teach them pistol marksmanship. Make a pellet trap target with some old steel and kitty litter.

Bought my son a Daisy Buck. Same action as Red Ryder, but straight stock and a lot smaller size. Fits a little guy or girl much better.
