Re: Should PA allow deadly force to stop thieves?
I am insured and always have been. Dealing with a thief could
be as simple as dialing 911 and then my insurance company.
The threat of or use of deadly force could be more of a life altering
event for me than for the perp.
I'm not willing to spend time in jail, or prison, or forfeit my life savings
over something I can replace with minimal inconvenience. While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Re: Should PA allow deadly force to stop thieves?
One detail that I would like to know is if anyone in your family was in the garage at the time and was threatened. Do you have to confront them? Or can you can just see someone moving inside your shed and kill them from far away when you are in a safe spot and are not threatened.
Goes back to my question a few posts up......"Should you be allowed to kill a bunch of teens that broke into your shed?"

Re: Should PA allow deadly force to stop thieves?
Not really. I've got insurance for stuff. Maybe perhaps some lightening of terroristic intent/brandishing. Most of the rest like a bunch of people ganging up on you is likely already "justified". I'd be more worried about people walking out the door with a t.v. getting shot in the back or some other dumb thing. Obviously people shouldn't steal and there's other laws, police presence, and what that can be upped. But shooting someone for say looking in your mailbox or taking your Amazon package is a bit much.

Re: Should PA allow deadly force to stop thieves?
Once again the devil is in the details and it looks like this policy is for self defense. I have a feeling they would not cover you if you were defending your lawn mower.
This really is a silly subject to comment on and I am surprised it was started by a lawyer. He should be telling us if he would even take a case like this (and more importantly if there was a chance in hell he would win).
There was a case about a year ago when some rancher in Texas killed some illegal from 100 yards away that was trespassing on his land. IIRC Texas allows you to defend your property but he was arrested and charged with murder. This caused a similar pointless conversation here but then the news stopped reporting. Does anyone know if he got off?
I believe what happened there would be the answer to this thread.
