🤔Pottstown faces federal lawsuit over plans to vacate homeless encampment
🚫 Pottstown has erected signs along College Drive, declaring the parcel a flood hazard and “private property of the borough.” The sign demands people vacate after Dec. 1.
The Community Justice Project and Legal Aid of Southeastern Pennsylvania recently filed a federal lawsuit against the Borough of Pottstown over its plans to close a homeless encampment along the Schuylkill River Trail.
The legal complaint was filed on behalf of two Pottstown residents experiencing homelessness. The two individuals, who have sought shelter on the property, accused the borough of violating the Eighth Amendment prohibition on cruel and unusual punishment as well as the 14th Amendment, which guarantees equal protection under the law.
Pottstown officials have erected signs along College Drive, declaring the parcel “private property of the borough” and a flood hazard. The sign calls for people to vacate the stretch of land after Dec. 1. The sign urges residents in need to call 211, which is Montgomery County’s homeless call line — but there is no year-round shelter for single adults in the county.

Re: 🤔Pottstown faces federal lawsuit over plans to vacate homeless encampment
I'm not sure if estoppel or adverse possession apply to govt subdivisions, but in general, if people start using your land, that starts a clock for them to eventually assert ownership of that land.
Further, if you allow people to use your land, you are liable for injuries they sustain from properties of that land. If a couple of hoboes drown during a flood on your known flood plain, guess who gets sued for wrongful death?
There's also the issue of petty thefts within walking distance of every homeless encampment.
I think the Feds should establish some camps for the homeless on some of the less-pleasant acreage the Feds own, among the 640,000,000 acres owned directly by the US govt. Minimalist camps, gruel 2X a day, access to a medic, clean cold water on tap with some cheap soap, a few armed guards to break up fights. Maybe in a desert or swamp. The cost would be worth it to the millions of business owners who start their day hosing hobo urine and shit off their walls and sidewalks, and office workers who endure a gauntlet of psychotics twice a day, 4 times if they go out at lunch.
I think Junkieville would be a popular idea. Let anyone get in who wants to go, send all the highway sign beggars and moochers there, pack up the people who made poor decisions, especially the people with $250K student loan debt for their African Socialist Lesbian Poetry masters degrees. Nobody should starve in America, that doesn't mean everybody gets the same comfy lifestyle whether they contribute or not.

There's actually a Sci-Fi / Cyberpunk notion from the 80s/90s, wherein folks trade their votes for a guarantee of a roof over their heads and three hots.
Soros couldn't be puppeteering such in 2023 now could he?
To be clear - it's a little more formalized that Section 8 Housing as provided by the current urban DNC blocs. Like the votes are already pre-loaded, the owners not having to pretend to wait on mail in ballots.

Re: 🤔Pottstown faces federal lawsuit over plans to vacate homeless encampment
It's Pottsvegas the land, water and air are all contaminated. The homeless encampment has been around for many years. I used to drop people off at "home" by the tracks, the fountain or by the bridge. Why has it become a problem now? I have no idea. Perhaps a new batch of people have been destroying the area.
I will say some homeless people have just fallen on hard times and bad luck. These people can often recover and move on with life. Some choose drugs over everything else and nothing else matters. These people can only recover if they want to. The other type is the mentally ill who should be in a group home or hospital. Mental health hospitals were known to abuse patients. The answer to that was releasing all the mentally Ill onto the streets with nothing. The abusers should have been arrested and prosecuted.Aggies Coach Really ??? Take off the tin foil bro.
