Body armor.
Medical.
Extra weapons and lots of ammo for them.

Real threat is get home bag. Say you're 30 miles from home. Bombs drop and knock out your car's ecu, you're dead in the water. All your stuff is at home. 30 miles is probably a 2 day hike through unknown threats, you don't know what else is out there, you're on foot, you need hydration and energy, and you need to poop. You need adequate defense and offense. You debate main roads because they're easier and faster, but they can make you a target, so you hug the tree line, which slows you down. Running on more difficult terrain increases risk of injury. Coms for when you get close to home, let them know your inbound? Make sure they're ready to receive you and don't treat you as just another threat when you approach the house climbing over piles of bodies of the less fortunate.
