I finally resigned as a director at Tri-Town, because I needed a break after all those years on the executive committee. We only have one fudd on the EC though.

I belong to 3 clubs in the Lehigh Valley and all 3 have no carry restrictions as long as its in the holster. Why join a gun club that restricts the carry of guns?

Easton fish and game. East Bath. Williams Twp. All firearms to be shot must be cased and unloaded and brought to the bench. Your carry firearm in its holster, open or concealed, is ok

That's hilarious. They must have to fight off potential members. I've never heard of a club like that. There are 5 private clubs near Erie, and not one has a ridiculous rule of having a RO there.

Member-only clubs carry a tremendous amount of risk. We have $5M of liability insurance at my gun club, which is not near enough if a member or guest were to die on our property from an accidental shooting... we would be shut-down after all the lawyer dust settled.

We rely on the members to self-police the ranges and call out safety issues if they encounter them. Nevertheless, accidents happen from negligence or a lack of focus.

IWLA south of York encourages concealed carry but open carry (off the range) is forbidden

They also have a strictly enforced rule against boomerangs on the property

Aside from that it is a very "Be safe and don't kill yourself" kind of place. No range Annie's babysitting you and aside from one jackass in the 3 years I've been going there everyone is always super friendly. I've heard of some safety violations but never witnessed one there myself.

It's amazing how people are fully capable of policing themselves on safety when there isn't anyone "in charge"

To be fair, anyone who's ever been in an indoor gun range only has to look up at the ceiling, with random bulletholes starting a few inches forward of the benches, to see why it's sometimes necessary to treat shooters like people who can't be trusted to shoot.

Also, at outdoor ranges, how many people place their targets directly on the 4X4 upright support, then shoot out the support? Who here has never seen someone fire at their target while others have called a halt to check their targets, and then explain "I was only shooting in my lane."

That being said, range rules are often arbitrary and inexplicable, like a ban on all steel cased ammo. Not steel-jacketed bullets that might ricochet or penetrate the backstop, a ban on the CASES if they're made of steel, like a lot of foreign cartridges. Nothing better than loading up your mags for some range time, then having the clerk unload them and check the rounds for the verboten steel.
